A SOUL WEAVER’S JOURNEY is a retrospective look at 40 years of work made by basketmaker and fiber artist Tressa Sularz.

“I am a fiber artist who uses the ancient techniques of wicker, plaiting, coiling, and twining to make things. I began as a traditional basketmaker and evolved into a fiber artist who makes sculpture. I weave love into everything I make.”

The exhibition will open at Homewood Studios Gallery with a reception from 12-2pm on Saturday April 8, 2023 and close with a celebration from 12-2pm on Sunday, April 30, 2023. The artist will be present. There will be a brief program at 1pm on both days, hosted by Dan Chouinard. In addition, there will be an evening reception from 7-9pm with an artist talk and film screening of the documentary Inner Gold at 8pm on Friday, April 21, 2023.

All four poets—Margaret Hasse, Tish Jones, Freya Manfred, and Joyce Sutphen—will read their new poems during the opening reception for the exhibition, 12-2pm Saturday, April 8, 2023. Poets read at 1pm. It’s an ekphrastic extravaganza.

The retrospective is a happy collaboration of many hearts and hands. Ten writers—Margaret Hasse, Mary E. Hazard, Mike Hazard, Tish Jones, Tracy Krumm, Kristin Makholm, Kimberly Nightingale, Freya Manfred, Robert Silberman, and Joyce Sutphen—have composed poems and essays to illuminate the artist and her art. Peter Lee and Mike Hazard photographed. Mark Odegard designed a beautiful book which Smart Set printed. Lucinda Anderson, Margarita Mac, Tracy Krumm, and Debbie Johnson cleaned work. Adam Fuchs updated the website. Kraig Rassmussen, Jim Becker, George Roberts, Amanda Rose, and a plethora of volunteers installed.
